Plugins are very helpful if you want to build an engaging website. We've reviewed 7 best WordPress plugins you should know about in 2020.

1. Slickstream

"Slickstream is a startup with a simple mission: To help publishers create exceptional user experiences and maximize their visitor engagement.

Slickstream

KEY FEATURES

  • Slick Search is a fast, responsive, and beautiful way for visitors to find what they're looking for
  • Filmstrips match your site's style and drive traffic to the pages you care about

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

This plugin has really helped to increase engagement, reduce bounce rate and pages per session on my site. Plus it looks sleek and professional! It's a film-strip widget with related posts that runs at the top of each individual post, then when the user scrolls down and that one disappears, if they scroll back up, another film strip appears at the top of the page. It's also attached to the search function on my site and provides much more thorough and professional-looking search results. Users can save their favorite posts (or, in my case, recipes) and a lot more.

If you’re using Contact Form 7 plugin, you’re really missing a trick if you don’t have Flamingo installed! It basically stores all your Contact Form 7 entries in the back end of Wordpress so you can look at them there rather than your personal inbox – or both!

7. Polylang

"Polylang allows you to create a bilingual or multilingual WordPress site."

Polylang

KEY FEATURES

  • You can use as many languages as you want.
  • You can translate posts, pages, media, categories, post tags, menus, widgets.
  • The language is either set by the content or by the language code in url.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Today's internet world is becoming very congested for content producers and bloggers for the end-reader's mind space. This is more specific in English where the maximum amount of content is produced and consumed. In spite of this, there is space in other languages for content producers. It is important for a content producer to target the readers and consumers of other languages.

Hence, in my opinion, I think a language translation plugin - such as WPML or Polylang is a must have plugin. These plugins convert the website content into multiple languages and also provide a menu option for switching between the languages for easy use. They score much better that the Google Translation plugin, which looks clunky and also does not do a good translation. The language translation plugins also give you an option where you can change the expected translation of a text and go with a customised one.

While WPML is a not-free plugin, Polylang comes with both a free and paid version. WPML provides very high quality of translation and is very easy to use. Polylang can also be rated decent and gets even attractive as it is free also.
